Celebrating 3 years in Kenya!

Three years! July 9 marked the day we left U.S. soil 3 years ago for Nairobi, Kenya. At the time we didn’t know how we would fit into the AIM AIR family of missionaries or what to expect. We just knew that God had called us into aviation ministry and that we were willing to go. EJ recalls being nervous and just a teeny bit anxious (ok, a lot anxious!) about moving to the great big city of Nairobi (over 5 million!) on the great big continent of Africa. She also remembers God’s reassurance of “reaching the one” – one person at a time. It’s encouraging to look back over the last three years and see who God has brought into our lives – one person at a time.

This last year especially has been pivotal for us as a family – the local friendships we’ve made have solidified, ministry outside of AIM AIR has increased, and Phil’s roles within AIM AIR have become more established. As difficult as it was to navigate a new country and way of life, it truly has become home for us. In fact, it was hard to leave! Even as we wrestled with this, we realize that the very people that made it hard to leave Kenya are the ones that draw us back.

Furlough, itineration, home assignment – whatever you call the time when a missionary leaves their place of ministry to spend time in their home culture – that is what we are doing right now! Our assignment from Africa Inland Mission for the next few months is to refresh, reconnect with supporters and recommit to the next term in Kenya.

We are committing to another 3 years with AIM AIR, with the desire for longer.

In order for us to commit to the next 3 years, we need more committed supporters to help financially! Due to a variety of circumstances, our support base has decreased in the last 10 months. (Examples: change of credit card expiry date, loss of work …)

We need to raise about $1,000/month before returning to Kenya.

You can join our team! We have a personalized giving page through the Africa Inland Mission website that makes it easy to give online. https://usgiving.aimint.org/missionary/1017520
Or send a check to Africa Inland Mission, PO Box 3611, Peachtree City, GA 30269 and enclose a note that it is for Phil Blohm, not on the check memo line.

Benji 2018

Meanwhile, we are preparing to release Benji into the college realm at Concordia University Wisconsin in August. He plans to study Exercise Physiology and Coaching.

Join us for a high school graduation open house on Saturday, Aug 11, at Waupaca First Assembly Church from 2-5pm.

Cards can be sent to him at N1322 County Road E, Waupaca WI 54981

Andrew, Benji and Michael began summer jobs at the same place where Phil and EJ had jobs as teenagers – Spencer Lake Christian Center. Matthew will turn 11 in August and then experience summer school for the first time. They’ve all had a ton of new experiences this past weeks and have many more to come! Prayers appreciated for all our kids as they gain independence and confidence.

The importance of taking the Gospel to those hard-to-reach is never far from our minds. Even in this technological age where even the poor in Kenya have cell phones, there are still over 900 people groups in Africa who have never heard of Jesus and who don’t have a viable church. It takes all of us working together to reach them!
